LITTLE PIECE OF THE WILD...

is an outgrowth of my urban wildlife documentary, ANIMALS AMONG US.

With so many deleted scenes and so many "little pieces" of wilderness unexplored, I decided to create this blog.
It serves me like a dining room table, where I can recount my exploits, pass around my photos, unroll my maps, talk politics and muse over the natural wonders that make up the real soul of our city, Kalamazoo.

It was the little pieces of wilderness in town where I found salvation and peace of mind. Beginning with my first love, Kleinstuck Preserve, I simply walked out into the woods and found acceptance, and from there a pulse and gateway to many of life's wonders and mysteries. As an artist, my relationship to the wild is first and foremost experiential, relying on my senses, observation, and instinct. Enriching that experience are the fruits of science.
